NCAB PRODUCTION PROCESS

4. Drilling – Drilling Holes Through Layers

In this lesson, we’ll delve into the process of creating precise holes in the PCB.

Drilled holes have two main jobs once they’re plated (covered with a layer of metal). First, they electrically connect all the layers (called via holes). These usually go all the way through the board. Second, they’re used for attaching components – these are called component holes. There are also non-plated holes that don’t carry electricity but help align the board during the process or secure it inside the customer’s final product. A whole lot of holes!

The process starts with X-Ray Drilling (tooling holes), and then we’ll move on to Mechanical Drilling.
