NCAB PRODUCTION PROCESS

9. Surface Finish Types – Adding A Protective Coating

Time to plate again! But this time on the outside of the PCB with a surface finish.

A surface finish is a coating of nickel and/or gold that is applied to the exposed copper on the surface of the PCB. It’s important because it prevents copper oxidation over time, but customers can still solder their compontents onto the PCB. Basically, this step is just a bunch of chemical baths! 🛁

There are several types of surface finishes–we’ll talk about ENIG, Immersion Tin and HASL today.
